Different restorations. Different amounts of preparation.

An all-ceramic restoration has no metal substructure. At Maj-Dent, our options include restorations made from IPS e.max lithium disilicate ceramic. We select the type of ceramic and fabrication technique according to the indications. Crown, veneer and onlay are not interchangeable names for the same restoration.

Crown

Covers most of the tooth’s crown. We consider it when a tooth needs extensive restoration.

Veneer

Mainly covers the surface visible when you smile. In a suitably selected case, it can change the shape, proportions and colour of a tooth.

Inlay, onlay, overlay

An inlay or onlay restores a missing part of a tooth. Its extent depends on which walls and cusps need to be rebuilt.

How do we plan the result?

Before choosing a restoration, we examine the tooth, gums and bite. We discuss your expectations for your smile and assess the available space and opportunities to preserve your own tooth structure. We take a scan or impression, and the laboratory makes the restoration.

At the fitting stage, we check not only the colour but also the contacts with adjacent teeth and how the teeth meet. We do not promise that every veneer can be made without preparing the tooth: the preparation required follows from the examination and design.

Frequently asked questions

Is root canal treatment always needed before a crown?

No. Planning a crown does not automatically mean that root canal treatment is necessary. An examination determines the condition of the pulp and the treatment needed.

How does IPS e.max ceramic differ from zirconia?

These are different groups of materials with different properties and indications. The name IPS e.max covers a family of products; the restorations described here use lithium disilicate ceramic. We recommend a specific material after analysing the case.

Can an existing veneer or crown be whitened?

Restorations do not whiten like natural teeth. If you are planning to change the colour of your smile, let us discuss the order of whitening and restoration work before treatment begins.

You can find indicative prices in our price list. We will discuss the scope, number of appointments and cost of your treatment after an examination.

Let’s talk about your treatment.
